Will SASSA Pay Double in June 2025? Here’s What You Need to Know

As South Africans gear up for another month of grant disbursements, speculation and misinformation continue to circulate online. The latest rumor making waves suggests that permanent SASSA beneficiaries will receive a “double payment” in June 2025. The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has since stepped forward to set the record straight — and the answer is a firm no, there will be no double payment in June.

SASSA Confirms: No Double Payments in June

In a statement released to address the widespread claims, SASSA’s Head of Communications, Paseka Letsatsi, categorically denied the existence of any plan to issue double payments to grant beneficiaries in June.

“This information is false and did not originate from SASSA,” Letsatsi confirmed. He urged the public to avoid spreading unverified content on social media and emphasized that beneficiaries should rely on official SASSA channels and credible news sources for accurate information.

“False information causes unnecessary panic and confusion, especially among vulnerable recipients who rely on these grants to survive,” he added.

SASSA’s Payment Dates for June 2025

Despite the false rumors, SASSA continues with its regular monthly disbursements. Here are the confirmed payment dates for June 2025:

  • Older Persons Grant: Tuesday, 3 June
  • Disability Grant: Wednesday, 4 June
  • Children’s Grants: Thursday, 5 June

Once payments are made, recipients can access their funds at any time via the method they’ve chosen — whether that’s direct deposit, retail collection, or mobile cash pay points.

Recent Increases to SASSA Grants

While there won’t be double payments, grant recipients have already received increases to their monthly grants earlier this year. These adjustments, implemented in April 2025, are part of the government’s broader plan to cushion low-income households against rising living costs.

Here’s what changed:

  • Old Age (60–74 years) & Disability Grants: Increased by R130 to R2,315
  • Old Age (75+ years) Grant: Increased by R135 to R2,335
  • War Veterans Grant: Increased by R130 to R2,315
  • Care Dependency Grant: Increased by R130 to R2,315
  • Child Support Grant: Increased by R30 to R560
  • Foster Care Grant: Increased by R70 to R1,250

These changes are part of the R284.7 billion allocation to social grants announced by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana during his Budget Speech earlier this year.

Available Payment Methods for SASSA Grants

Beneficiaries can choose from several payment methods, depending on their convenience and location:

  • Bank Account: Grants are paid directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts, providing flexibility to withdraw or use the funds anytime.
  • Retail Stores: Grants can also be collected from selected major retailers like Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Boxer, Usave, OK, and Checkers.
  • Mobile Cash Pay Points: This method is available for beneficiaries in rural or remote areas but operates on limited hours and specific days each month.

How to Report Misinformation or Get Help

SASSA encourages the public to report fake news and always verify any information they come across regarding grants. Here’s how you can contact SASSA for queries or complaints:

Final Word: Stay Informed, Stay Alert

The rumors of a double SASSA grant payment in June 2025 are false. Beneficiaries are advised to continue following the official payment schedule and remain vigilant about misinformation circulating online.

With millions depending on SASSA for their livelihood, spreading fake news not only causes stress but also undermines the trust and stability of the system. Let’s all play our part in keeping our communities informed — with facts, not fiction.
