Nationwide Weather Warnings and Alerts

  • Damaging Wind Warnings:
Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging winds is in effect between Saldanha Bay and Cape Agulhas. It is expected to persist until Thursday, 29 May. These strong winds will cause difficulties in maritime navigation and pose risks to small vessels at sea. Additionally, a Yellow Level 1 warning covers parts of the central and eastern interior of the Western Cape. The Dr Beyers Naude local municipality in the Eastern Cape is affected too. Strong crosswinds may lead to localized power and communication disruptions. They also create hazards for high-sided vehicles on vulnerable routes.
  • Fire Danger Alerts:
Extremely high fire danger conditions are forecasted in the Kareeberg local municipality (Northern Cape), Central and Little Karoo districts, Hessequa municipality (Western Cape), and several local municipalities in the Eastern Cape including Dr Beyers Naude, Blue Crane Route, and Inxuba Yethemba. Residents in these areas should exercise extreme caution due to the risk of wildfires exacerbated by dry and windy conditions.
  • Cold Front Impact:
The cold front will bring a notable drop in temperatures, rough seas, and strong gusty winds averaging 55 to 75 km/h. This will especially affect the Western Cape, Northern Cape, and Eastern Cape interior regions. Coastal areas from Alexander Bay to Plettenberg Bay will experience gale-force winds and abnormal wave heights of 5 to 7 meters. These create hazardous conditions for maritime and coastal activities.
