Weather Alert: Cool Weather for Most Provinces

Cool and Fine Weather for Most Provinces, Heatwave Persists in Northern Cape – Wednesday, 14 May 2025

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has released the national weather forecast for Wednesday, 14 May 2025, with most provinces expecting cool and fine weather. However, persistent heatwave conditions and heightened fire dangers remain a major concern for parts of the Northern and Western Cape.

Here’s what you need to know about the forecast for your area:

Weather Alert and Advisories

SAWS has issued fire danger warnings for extreme northwestern parts of the Northern Cape, especially areas along and adjacent to the coast, as well as the northeastern interior of the Western Cape. These conditions pose serious risks for wildfires, and residents are urged to avoid open flames or any activity that may spark a fire.

In addition, a heatwave warning remains in effect for the Richtersveld Municipality in the Northern Cape, where persistently high temperatures are expected to continue through Friday, 16 May. This area is experiencing hot to very hot conditions, which could affect vulnerable populations and increase the strain on local infrastructure and services.

While most South African provinces will enjoy a cool and fine Wednesday, the ongoing heatwave in the Northern Cape, particularly in the Richtersveld Municipality, and fire danger alerts in dry regions, remain significant concerns. The SA Weather Service will continue monitoring conditions and provide updates where necessary.
