Gauteng: Cold Air Arrives, UVB Risk Remains High

Gauteng residents can expect partly cloudy and cold weather, with the chill intensifying as the cold front moves inland. While no disruptive rain is forecast, the region’s UVB sunburn index remains high. Residents should take precautions against prolonged sun exposure, even as temperatures drop. Frost is likely in the mornings, especially in outlying areas.

Western Cape: Disruptive Rain and Localised Flooding

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow level 1 warning for disruptive rain over the City of Cape Town. This alert highlights the risk of localised flooding in susceptible areas and on roads, especially in low-lying regions. Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel, drive cautiously, and stay alert for waterlogged roads.

Morning fog is expected in mountainous regions, reducing visibility and increasing travel risks. The cold front brings not only rain but also chilly northwesterly winds and the potential for slippery road conditions. Coastal communities should remain vigilant as rough seas and strong winds may persist into the weekend.

Northern Cape: Cold, Fog, and Gusty Winds

The Namakwa District and parts of the Northern Cape are also under the influence of the cold front. Morning fog patches will affect visibility, while the rest of the day remains cold. Strong, gusty winds are possible, particularly in the interior, with a risk of localised damage to structures and uprooted trees. Residents should secure loose items and exercise caution when outdoors.

Eastern Cape: Fog, Cold, and Coastal Cloud

The Eastern Cape will see fog patches in the northern and western interior during the morning. Conditions remain fine and cool to cold, with very cold temperatures in the extreme northern interior. Along the coast and adjacent interior, cloud cover will increase into the evening, bringing a further chill. Strong winds may affect exposed areas, so motorists and residents should remain cautious.

Free State: Widespread Frost and Morning Fog

The Free State faces widespread frost across the interior, with cold conditions dominating the province. Morning fog patches may impact visibility, particularly for early travellers. Residents are advised to take precautions against the cold and to be mindful of slippery surfaces due to frost.

Mpumalanga: Cool to Cold, Isolated Cloud

Mpumalanga will experience fine and cool to cold conditions, becoming partly cloudy in the south. No severe weather warnings are in effect, but residents should prepare for a noticeable drop in temperature and possible morning frost.

Limpopo: Drizzle in the North, Cool Conditions

Limpopo starts fine in the south but becomes partly cloudy and cool as the day progresses. Cloud cover increases in the north, with a chance of drizzle. No severe warnings are currently in place, but the province will feel the effects of the cold front.

North West: Fine and Cold

The North West province will see fine and cold conditions throughout the weekend. While no severe weather is expected, the cold front’s reach means residents should prepare for chilly mornings and evenings.

KwaZulu-Natal: Cool to Cold, High UVB

KwaZulu-Natal can expect fine and cool to cold weather, with a very high UVB sunburn index. Residents should use sun protection even in cold weather. No severe weather warnings are in place, but the province will feel the chill as the cold air spreads eastward.
