Kaizer Chiefs Release Striker as Fiston Mayele Transfer Rumours Intensify

Kaizer Chiefs have taken another step in revamping their squad. They announced that striker Ranga Chivaviro will be leaving the club. This move adds to the list of recent exits following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season. Midfielders Sabelo Radebe and Njabulo Blom are also making their way out of Naturena.
In an official statement released midweek, the club confirmed that Chivaviro’s contract will not be renewed. The statement reads: “Kaizer Chiefs will not be extending striker Ranga Chivaviro’s contract when it expires at the end of the month,” posted on the club’s website.
Short Spell Comes to an End
Chivaviro, who hails from Limpopo, joined the Glamour Boys on a two-year deal from Marumo Gallants. This move was ahead of the 2023/24 season. Despite his effort, his impact was limited as he netted nine goals and contributed a single assist in 45 matches across all competitions during his stay at the club.
Amakhosi expressed gratitude for his services. “We thank Ranga for his positive contribution to the team and wish him all the best in his future exploits,” concluded the club’s message.
Kaizer Chiefs Still Searching for Firepower
The club’s struggles in front of goal were evident throughout the 2024/25 campaign. A lack of consistency in the final third was a recurring issue. The technical team is now looking to strengthen their attack. They are expected to bring in fresh talent before the new season begins.
One name that has gained significant attention is Congolese striker Fiston Mayele. He recently lifted the CAF Champions League trophy with Egyptian outfit Pyramids. His performances throughout the competition made him a hot property. He scored a crucial goal in the final against Mamelodi Sundowns.
Reunion on the Cards?
Mayele has a strong connection to Chiefs’ current coach Nasreddine Nabi. He played under the Tunisian tactician at Tanzanian giants Young Africans. In a recent interview, the forward confirmed he spoke to Nabi as recently as December. This hints at a continued relationship between the two.
Adding fuel to the transfer speculation, Nabi was spotted during the second leg of the CAF Champions League final in Cairo. Mayele found the back of the net in a 2-1 win over Sundowns during this fixture. The coach’s presence there has only intensified rumours. Therefore, Amakhosi could be looking to secure the 29-year-old’s services.
More Movement Expected
With several exits already confirmed and more anticipated, Kaizer Chiefs fans can expect a busy off-season. The club aims to rebuild under Nabi’s leadership. The management appears keen on reshaping the squad with players fitting the new coach’s tactical vision. Mayele could be a marquee signing that sets the tone for the upcoming campaign.
Should Mayele land at Naturena, it could mark a significant shift in the club’s ambitions. Therefore, they might move from a side struggling to convert chances to one equipped with a proven goal scorer capable of leading the line.
All Eyes on Naturena
The coming weeks will be crucial for Chiefs. They plan to finalise their transfer targets and prepare for pre-season. The spotlight remains firmly on Naturena, with supporters eagerly watching to see if the Mayele deal will be the turning point the club needs.
