Job Purpose

The Internal Sales Representative will play a key role in the sales process, ensuring that products are sold efficiently to customers while maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction. The core responsibility is to meet sales and gross profit targets, all while providing excellent service to internal and external customers. The role also requires the processing of orders, resolving customer queries, and ensuring accurate reporting.

Main Responsibilities

Sales

  • Meet sales and gross profit targets consistently.
  • Sell stock to customers, sourcing stock internally if necessary to complete orders.
  • Maintain a clean back-order report and ensure timely follow-up on back orders to avoid delays.
  • Collaborate with internal or external transport providers to ensure timely delivery of products.
  • Proactively identify sales opportunities through inbound lead follow-up, telesales, outbound cold calls, and emails.
  • Manage pricing in line with company requirements.
  • Analyze customers’ sales history to identify growth opportunities.
  • Expand both existing and new customer bases.

Customer Service

  • Maintain high standards of customer service with both internal and external customers.
  • Ensure accurate and timely communication with internal departments (Debtors, Procurement, other branches).
  • Resolve customer queries efficiently.
  • Provide daily updates to customers regarding back orders and out-of-stock items.
  • Communicate customer credits and other important information such as pricelists, stock discontinuations, and promotions.

Administration and Reporting

  • Prepare quotes, sales orders, and invoices in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Process customer orders promptly, ensuring efficient order fulfillment.
  • Advise customers of stock availability and arrange stock transfers from other branches or procurement if necessary.
  • Communicate pipeline orders or unusual purchases to the Branch Manager and Procurement.
  • Ensure COD payments are received before stock is released.
  • Assist with credit card, EFT, or cash payments and ensure data systems are accurate and updated.
  • Review and ensure customer information is correct, including credit limits and outstanding payments.
  • Assist with other sales-related tasks as required by the Office Supervisor or Branch Manager.

SHEQ Integrated Management System Control

  • Adhere to health and safety regulations as per the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and others.
  • Cooperate with the employer to meet all prescribed health and safety duties.
  • Report any unsafe or unhealthy situations or incidents.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures and participate in all required Integrated Management System activities.
  • Identify and report opportunities for improvement within the department.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this role, applicants should meet the following criteria:

Qualifications

  • A Grade 12 certificate with at least 1 to 2 additional short course certifications is required.

Experience

  • A minimum of 1 year in a similar sales role is required.
  • At least 3 years of experience working in a sales environment.

Knowledge Requirements

  • Basic proficiency in MS Excel.
  • Intermediate proficiency in SAGE or Pastel Evolution (or similar accounting systems).
  • Practical knowledge of best practices in sales processes.
  • Awareness of ISO Standard requirements relevant to the position.
