Gauteng Health Department Takes Health Services to the Rand Show 2025
The Rand Show 2025 is now a powerful vehicle for community upliftment, health education, and public service delivery. Among the standout initiatives this year is the participation of the Gauteng Department of Health in collaboration with the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) South Africa. Together, they’re bringing vital health services directly to the public, absolutely free of charge.

The Rand Show 2025: Bringing Healthcare to the Heart of the Community
The Rand Show 2025 will feature the return of the impactful Public Sector Hall (Hall 5). This hall will house several key government departments and agencies. This will include the Gauteng Department of Health, in an accessible, interactive space where visitors can receive real-time support and engage directly with service providers.
One of the key attractions in Hall 5 will be a fully operational health screening activation, driven by AHF South Africa. As part of its ongoing efforts to improve healthcare access and promote health education, AHF will offer free HIV, TB, STI, and blood pressure screenings. In addition, visitors will receive condoms, safer sex education, and opportunities to engage with fun and informative experiences like the “Commitment Wall,” health awareness documentaries, and family-friendly giveaways.
AHF South Africa: Leading Health Innovation
Operating in 47 countries and present in South Africa since 2002, AHF is the world’s largest non-profit provider of HIV and AIDS healthcare. Its participation at The Rand Show is more than symbolic—it’s a strategic move to ensure that underserved communities gain access to crucial services in a fun, approachable setting.
“Our presence at The Rand Show is all about visibility, access, and empowerment,” says Ngaa Murombedzi, Southern Africa Regional Advocacy and Policy Manager for AHF South Africa. “We’re not just offering screenings—we’re engaging with people, educating communities, and facilitating direct links to care through our partnership with the Gauteng Department of Health.”
The mobile van and gazebo setup at the show will act as an accessible hub, removing traditional barriers to healthcare. Whether someone is curious about their status or in need of support, the environment encourages openness and learning.
Public-Private Partnership for Public Good
The collaboration between AHF and the Gauteng Department of Health exemplifies the strength of public-private partnerships. By combining government reach with the agility and innovation of non-profit organisations, initiatives like these deliver tangible impact.
Visitors to the Public Sector Hall can also engage with several other key service providers, including:
- South African Social Security Agency (SASSA)
- Johannesburg Water and Rand Water
- Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC)
- Road Accident Fund (RAF)
- Biodiversity and ombud institutions
Whether it’s registering to vote, resolving disputes, or learning about biodiversity, visitors will have a one-stop destination to access government services.
Empowering Women and Youth
AHF will also spotlight its Girls Act programme, designed to empower adolescent girls and young women through education, mentorship, and access to health services. This is in line with broader national goals to reduce new HIV infections and promote gender equality in healthcare.
A Healthier Future Begins Here
The Rand Show has long been a highlight on the Joburg events calendar, attracting thousands of attendees each year. By integrating essential services and community outreach into its entertainment offering, the 2025 edition promises to be not only fun but profoundly impactful.
“This is where health and hope meet,” adds Murombedzi. “By removing stigma, increasing awareness, and making care accessible, we’re building healthier communities—one screening at a time.”
