Nationwide Fire Danger Remains High
SAWS warns of extremely high fire danger conditions expected across several provinces including Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Eastern Cape, Free State, North West, parts of the Northern Cape, Limpopo, and KwaZulu-Natal. These areas face a heightened risk of runaway fires sparked by dry, hot, and windy conditions. Residents in these regions should avoid open flames, report fires promptly, and follow local fire authority advice. The Western Cape does not currently face elevated fire risks.
Provincial Weather Summaries
Gauteng:
Residents can expect fine, warm to hot weather with a very high UVB sunburn index. It is strongly advised to take sun protection measures, such as wearing hats and sunscreen.
Mpumalanga:
Morning fog may linger in eastern areas, but the day will be largely fine and warm, becoming hot in parts of the Lowveld.
Limpopo:
Morning fog patches are expected over the Lowveld and central parts, turning into warm to very hot conditions later in the day.
North West:
Partly cloudy, windy, and warm weather will prevail, with isolated showers and thunderstorms possible in the far west.
Free State:
Fine, windy, and warm to hot conditions are forecast.
Northern Cape:
Coastal morning fog patches will give way to fine, windy, and warm to hot weather inland.
Western Cape:
The day starts cool with morning fog in places, becoming partly cloudy, cool, and warm in some western coastal areas. Strong south-westerly winds, especially south of Cape Point, will continue.
Eastern Cape:
Western Half: Patches of morning fog along with partly cloudy skies; temperatures will be cool along the coast and generally warm inland.
Eastern Half: Similar partly cloudy and cool coastal conditions will persist, with fine and warm weather inland.
KwaZulu-Natal:
Morning fog is expected in the northern interior; coastal areas will experience partly cloudy skies with isolated showers, mainly between Durban and Mtubatuba. The UVB index is high, urging residents to seek sun protection.

- Wind: Strong coastal winds are likely along the Western Cape’s west coast and parts of KwaZulu-Natal, potentially impacting marine activities and vulnerable structures.
- Fog: Patches of morning fog may reduce visibility along coastal and some inland escarpment areas, drivers are advised to exercise caution.
- Isolated Thunderstorms: Possible in North West province’s extreme west, bringing short-lived heavy rain that may cause localized flooding.
