What is the IMESA Bursary?

Who is Eligible for IMESA Bursaries?
To apply for the IMESA bursary, students must meet the following criteria:
- Full-Time Enrollment
Applicants must be enrolled in full-time studies at a recognized South African tertiary institution. The program must be accredited in Civil Engineering or other related engineering disciplines. - Completion of Mid-Year Exams
To ensure students are progressing in their studies, applicants must have successfully completed their mid-year exams. This requirement demonstrates that they are advancing academically before applying for bursary support. - Second Year or Higher
The bursary is available to students who are in their second year or higher of study. First-year students do not qualify. The program is aimed at those who are already established in their academic journey and need support to continue progressing. - Dependents of IMESA Members
Priority is given to students who are dependents of IMESA members. However, students who are not dependents of IMESA members can also apply, but their applications will be considered at the discretion of the IMESA Executive Council. - Consideration for Other Engineering Disciplines
Although the bursary primarily targets Civil Engineering students, those studying other engineering disciplines may also be eligible. The decision to offer the bursary to these students depends on the discretion of the IMESA Executive Council.
What Does the IMESA Bursary Cover?
The IMESA bursary covers the following expenses:
- Tuition Fees
The bursary pays for the student’s tuition fees for the upcoming academic year. This ensures that students do not have to worry about paying for their courses and can focus on their studies. - Books and Study Materials

How to Apply for IMESA Bursaries
Each year, the bursary application period opens in June and closes in September. Students who wish to apply must submit their applications by the deadline. There are two application forms available, depending on the applicant’s affiliation with IMESA:
- Form B is for dependents of IMESA members.
- Form A is for students who are not dependents of IMESA members.
Applicants must ensure they submit the required documents and forms by the closing date. After a thorough evaluation process, successful applicants will be notified before the end of the year.
