Applying to the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) for the 2026 academic year involves several important steps.

Vaal University of Technology (VUT) 2026 Application Process

This guide outlines the full application process, from choosing your program to submitting documents and tracking your application.

Step 1: Choose Your Study Program

Start by selecting your desired program of study. VUT offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications through the following faculties:

    • Faculty of Applied and Computer Sciences
    • Faculty of Engineering and Technology
    • Faculty of Human Sciences
    • Faculty of Management Sciences

You are encouraged to choose both a first and second choice when applying. Be sure to consult the 2026 Undergraduate Prospectus to review program options and ensure you meet the relevant entry requirements.

    Step 2: Check Admission Requirements

Each program has its own admission criteria, which may include minimum APS scores, specific subjects, and required performance levels. For example, Engineering programs may require strong marks in Mathematics and Physical Science. It is essential to meet these criteria to be considered for admission. Full details are available in the prospectus.

Step 3: Gather and Certify Supporting Documents

You will need the following certified documents for your application:

    1. ID or Passport Copy: A certified copy of your South African ID or, for international applicants, a valid passport.
    2. Academic Results: Your final Grade 11 results and the latest Grade 12 results (e.g., June exams). If you’ve already completed matric, submit your final NSC results.
    3. Proof of Payment: Evidence that the non-refundable application fee has been paid.
    4. Proof of Address: This is optional, but may be requested.

Ensure all documents are clear, legible, and certified within the last three months.

Step 4: Pay the Application Fee

Before submitting your application, pay the required application fee:

    • R110.00 for South African applicants
    • R120.00 for international applicants

    Use the following banking details:

    • Bank: ABSA
    • Account Number: 530 861 945
    • Branch Code: 632005
    • Reference: Use your ID or passport number

Remember: your application will not be processed without proof of payment.

Step 5: Complete the Online Application

Once you’ve gathered all documents and paid the fee, apply online. Here’s how:

    1. Register on the VUT online application portal. New users must create an account; returning applicants can log in directly.
    2. Enter your personal information including full name, ID/passport number, contact details, and next of kin.
    3. Select your qualification level and program choices.
    4. Upload all required documents, including your academic records, ID copy, and proof of payment.
    5. Double-check your information for accuracy before submitting your application.

Keep a copy of your submission confirmation for reference.

    Step 6: Track Your Application

After submitting your application, you can monitor its progress through the VUT Student Self-Service portal. It’s a good idea to check the portal regularly for updates, messages, or requests for additional documents.

    Notes for International Applicants

International students follow the same process but should also:

    • Submit a valid study permit for the duration of their studies.
    • Provide proof of English proficiency, if English was not the language of instruction.

You may also be required to have your qualifications evaluated by SAQA (South African Qualifications Authority).

    Tips and Reminders

    • Apply early to avoid last-minute delays or missing deadlines.
    • All applications close once program capacity is reached, even if before the official closing date.
    • Ensure that all uploaded documents are certified and clearly scanned.
    • Keep your contact information up to date so VUT can reach you if needed.
