The University of South Africa is one of the largest open distance learning institutions in Africa, offering a range of undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications. If you’re interested in starting or continuing your academic journey mid-year, the institution’s 2nd Semester Application for 2025 offers an excellent opportunity to apply.

    UNISA 2ND Semester Application 2025

Here’s everything you need to know to apply successfully.

Who Can Apply for the 2nd Semester?

UNISA’s second semester application process is typically open to:

    • New applicants seeking to start a qualification mid-year.
    • Returning students who previously studied at UNISA but did not register for the 1st semester.
    • Applicants changing qualifications or specialisations.
    • UNISA students applying for a second qualification.
    • Applicants applying for short learning programmes (SLPs).

Note: Not all qualifications accept new students in the second semester. It’s important to check if your intended programme is available for mid-year intake.

Key Application Dates for 2025 (Tentative)

While the insitution has not yet released the exact application window for the second semester of 2025, it typically falls between mid-April and mid-May. These dates are subject to change, so it is crucial to regularly check UNISA’s official website (www.unisa.ac.za) for updates.

    How to Apply

All applications must be submitted online through UNISA’s application portal. Follow these steps:

Step 1: Visit the UNISA Website

Go to www.unisa.ac.za and click on the “Apply for Admission” tab.

Step 2: Choose the Type of Qualification

Select whether you are applying for a Higher Certificate, Diploma, Degree, Honours, or Short Learning Programme.

Step 3: Create a myUNISA Account

If you don’t already have a myUNISA account, you will be prompted to create one. This account will be used to track your application status and access other student services.

    Step 4: Upload Supporting Documents

You’ll need to upload certified copies (not older than three months) of the following:

    • South African ID or passport (for international students)
    • Matric certificate or academic transcripts
    • Proof of residency (for NSFAS-funded students)
    • Marriage certificate or divorce decree (if applicable)

    Step 5: Submit the Application

Review your application carefully and click “submit.” You will receive a confirmation email with your application reference number.

    Application Fees

There is a non-refundable application fee of R135. This fee must be paid before your application will be processed. Payment can be made via:

    • Debit/credit card (online)
    • Bank deposit or EFT using the provided UNISA banking details

Use your student number as the payment reference.

    Selection and Admission Process

Submitting an application does not guarantee admission. UNISA uses a selection process based on:

    • Academic merit
    • Space availability in the programme
    • Meeting the admission requirements

Successful applicants will receive an offer via email and must accept the offer within the given timeframe.

    Registration After Acceptance

Once accepted, students must register online during the official registration period for the second semester, which usually starts in June or early July. Study materials will be available after registration and payment of tuition fees.

    Funding Options

Students applying for the second semester may still apply for funding if the deadline has not passed. Some options include:

    • NSFAS (for first-time undergraduate students from low-income households)
    • UNISA bursaries
    • Employer or private sponsorships

It’s essential to apply for funding early and submit all required documentation.

Final Tips for a Successful Application

    • Double-check that the qualification is available for second-semester entry.
    • Ensure all documents are certified and uploaded correctly.
    • Monitor your email and myUNISA portal for updates.
    • Pay your application fee on time.
    • Apply as early as possible to avoid system delays close to the deadline.

By planning ahead and following the correct application procedures, you can join thousands of students who are building their futures through UNISA’s flexible, distance learning approach. Keep an eye on their website and social media channels for the latest updates on the 2025 second semester intake.
