The University of South Africa (Unisa) has officially opened applications for its inaugural Hackathon event, set to take place from 30 June to 2 July 2025, with the main hackathon days scheduled for 3 to 4 July 2025. Hosted by the College of Science, Engineering and Technology (CSET) in collaboration with the Information and Communications Technology Portfolio, this exciting initiative is designed to empower students with Python programming skills and offer them a platform to solve real-world challenges through innovation and teamwork.
Unisa Hackathon Event Overview
The Unisa Hackathon will be held at the Unisa Pretoria Campus, specifically at the Kgorong Function Hall. Activities will begin at 8:00 AM daily. This event is more than just a competition—it’s an opportunity for aspiring coders and innovators to learn, collaborate, and showcase their skills to a panel of experts.
The event is divided into two key components:
- Python Training (30 June – 2 July 2025)
This intensive training segment is tailored for participants who are either new to coding or looking to sharpen their skills in Python, one of the most widely used and versatile programming languages today. Training will involve coding sessions and problem-solving exercises to prepare participants for the hackathon. - Hackathon (3 – 4 July 2025)
