Nasi iSpani Initiative gathering – In a stirring address at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto, Premier Panyaza Lesufi rallied the youth of Gauteng to seize government-provided opportunities to elevate their families and communities. This call to action was made during the introduction of the newly appointed Youth Brigades, part of the innovative Nasi iSpani Mass Recruitment Programme.

    Launched in June 2023, the Nasi iSpani initiative represents a significant effort by the Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) to combat unemployment and broaden access to job opportunities within its departments and agencies. The programme encompasses several key projects, including the Solar Technicians Learning and Training Programme, the Green Army Cleaning and Greening Programme, the Early Childhood Development (ECD) Practitioners Programme, and the Youth Brigades Programme.

    The Youth Brigades, now serving as teacher assistants in various public schools across the province, were previously engaged under the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI). Their role involves providing essential administrative support to educators, thereby enhancing the educational environment for students.

    Premier Lesufi emphasised the Gauteng government’s dedication to its youth, stating, “As you leave this building today, you must know that we are not just only opening opportunities for you; we are opening opportunities for everyone that is surrounded and next to your family.”

    A Campaign That is Changing Lives

    He also expressed gratitude to the former PYEI beneficiaries for their crucial contributions to the impressive 2023 matric results, acknowledging their role in fostering order and conducive learning environments in schools.

    Asivile Masiza, a beneficiary from the Raymond Mhlaba School of Specialisation, shared her transformative experience as a PYEI phase 4 teacher assistant. Her journey taught her the value of commitment, discipline, and hard work, leading to personal growth and the opportunity to further her education. Asivile has completed her advanced diploma at the University of Johannesburg and aspires to a career in education.

    The Nasi iSpani Initiative – Fostering Youth Empowerment and Employment

    MEC for Education, Matome Chiloane, praised Premier Lesufi’s vision and commitment to youth empowerment, highlighting the government’s resolve to employ and uplift the people of Gauteng. Chiloane also called on the private sector to join forces with the government in creating jobs and stimulating economic growth in the province.
