Longwe Twala rearrested, the son of renowned music producer Chicco Twala, following his failure to appear in court last month. The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed the arrest, which took place in Diepkloof, Soweto, after a warrant was issued.
“We can confirm that Longwe Twala was arrested this morning in Diepkloof after a warrant of arrest was issued for him,” said SAPS spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi.
The arrest comes as Longwe Twala faces charges of contempt of court. He is set to appear at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
Previous Arrest for Theft
Earlier this year, Longwe Twala was arrested for breaking into his father’s home and stealing items valued at R200,000. According to Chicco Twala, the incident occurred while he was away on a business trip in the United States.
“Longwe, whom I chased away a while ago because of his drug addiction, jumped the high walls and broke into my studio to steal my belongings,” Chicco Twala said.
The stolen items and the betrayal from his own son prompted the veteran producer to take a hard stance, resulting in Longwe’s initial arrest.
Longwe Twala Rearrested: Court Proceedings
In his initial court appearance, Longwe Twala’s lawyer argued that he was not a flight risk and assured the court that he would attend all required proceedings. However, his failure to appear last month has now led to his rearrest.
The SAPS reiterated that this rearrest was unavoidable due to Longwe’s disregard for court orders.

“I had to, as a parent, take this step. I cannot sit back and watch my son go astray, stealing, especially from the family,” he said.
Longwe Twala rearrested has resulted in Chicco revealing that Longwe has been given numerous chances to change his ways but continues to disappoint. “Maybe prison will help him become a better person,” he added.
